Successful charter school networks are expanding; when will they come to Texas?

A recent article on the Education Week website surveys charter school network expansion plans. “Prominent Charter Networks Eye Fresh Territory”, Sean Cavanagh, Education Week, July 5, 2012.

BASIS has applied for a charter in Texas, which would allow it to open schools here starting in fall 2013. In Texas, charter school operators apply directly to the state, rather than having to clear local hurdles. However, Texas has an arbitrary cap of 215 charters, most of which are already taken.
