David Robinson helps IDEA Carver students shop for San Antonio Spurs NBA Finals gear at Academy Sports + Outdoors

This afternoon, 30 students from IDEA Carver each received a $50 gift card from Academy Sports + Outdoors to go shopping with David Robinson for San Antonio Spurs gear. The Spurs and the Miami Heat are tied 1-1 in the NBA Finals; the next game starts at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in San Antonio.

Robinson talked about how two of his sons are in college now: one at the University of Texas, and one at the University of Notre Dame. Getting kids ready for college is a recurring theme at IDEA Public Schools; for another example, see this earlier post about College Signing Day.

IDEA Carver Academy and College Prep is a free, open enrollment public charter school on San Antonio’s East Side. David Robinson founded Carver Academy as a private school, but it’s now part of the IDEA Public Schools network, as discussed in this earlier post.
