Join us for a bus trip to Austin to help bring the high-performing BASIS and Great Hearts charter schools to San Antonio.
As mentioned earlier, the State Board of Education’s Committee on School Initiatives will conduct interviews with the current round of charter school applicants in Austin in early November. Two applicants with plans to open in San Antonio, Great Hearts and BASIS, are scheduled for interviews in the morning on November 2, 2012.
A large group of parents and supporters showing up at the BASIS and Great Hearts interviews will make a big statement and should have an impact on the Committee on School Initiatives and the State Board of Education as they make decisions about granting charters. (Final decisions are expected after the State Board of Education’s November 14-16 meetings.)
The bus will leave San Antonio early in the morning on November 2. Breakfast and coffee will be provided. Supporters will have T-shirts to wear while sitting in the audience in the hearing room during the Great Hearts and BASIS interviews. Lunch will be provided, and the bus will return to San Antonio in the early afternoon. San Antonio Charter Moms is grateful for the support of the George W. Brackenridge Foundation for underwriting the cost of the bus, meals, and refreshments. If you’re curious, videos of last year’s interviews are available online here and here.
A big demonstration of support from San Antonio will show the State Board of Education how important these high-performing charter schools are to our families and our city. Please sign up now and tell your friends about this event.
