Would a school of choice with a credit recovery learning model be the right fit for your children? In this guide for parents and caregivers, we will explain more about what it means for a school to have a credit recovery learning model and give examples of schools in San Antonio that offer this model. Our goal is to help you understand the range of learning models that are available in schools of choice and enroll your children in high-quality schools that are the right fit for their needs.
What Are Credit Recovery Schools?
Credit recovery schools provide students who are at risk of dropping out with extra support and flexibility while earning a high school diploma. Signs that a student might be a good fit for a credit recovery high school program include having fewer high school credits than expected for their age or having a pattern of missing many days of school in a row. Students may have attempted but failed some of their high school courses and need to re-take them to graduate.
For some students, the flexibility of credit recovery programs is what makes the difference in allowing them to earn a high school diploma. Depending on the program, class time may take up only part of the day, allowing students to spend the rest of their day working to support themselves and their families or taking care of young family members.

In San Antonio, students can find credit recovery learning models at several open enrollment public charter schools and in-district charter schools. These are tuition-free, public schools that are open to all students in a wide enrollment area, as we explain in our guide to school models. Independent school districts in our region also have programs to support students who live within their boundaries and are at risk of dropping out.

Learning Models Help Focus Your School Search
Identifying credit recovery schools as a desired learning model is an important step in your school search. As a parent or caregiver who is researching schools for your offspring, or a teen who is researching schools for yourself, the range of options can be overwhelming.
