Parents are concerned about the loss of green spaces, and worry that the lack of playgrounds will affect the students’ health:
The debate is an opportunity to set an example for all San Antonio schools on the need for playgrounds and recess and a policy that protects both, said state Rep. Mike Villarreal, D-San Antonio, a Bonham parent.
In June, preservationists succeeded in protecting a historic house next to the school; San Antonio ISD officials had hoped to relocate the house and use the land for school expansion.
