As discussed in this earlier post, the charter school bill—SB2—passed the Texas House of Representatives last week. The House version is different from the Senate version, so now the bill will go to a conference committee to work out a compromise within a matter of days before the session ends. “Lawmakers to Negotiate Key Details of Education Bills”, Morgan Smith, Texas Tribune, May 22, 2013. I am hoping that the final bill is closer to the Senate version, which allows for more new charters to be granted in the future.
