Superintendent Sylvester Perez now has a permanent position at SAISD

A few weeks ago, the board of trustees of San Antonio ISD voted to name interim superintendent Sylvester Perez as the lone finalist (earlier post); last night, the board voted unanimously to give Perez a permanent contract. “Perez given permanent position leading SAISD”, Maria Luisa Cesar, San Antonio Express-News, June 18, 2013 (at mysanantonio.com).

Trustee Steve Lecholop, who was on vacation when the board voted to name Perez a finalist, said he would have voted in his favor. When asked if he saw Perez as a permanent leader, Lecholop said he’s “the right person to lead the district right now.”

Perez has held the interim job for over a year, while the board tried and failed to find an outside candidate (e.g.earlier post). Board President Ed Garza told the Express-News that Perez will resign voluntarily if the board chooses a replacement during the second year of his contract, 2014-15.
