As mentioned in this earlier post, the Texas Education Agency recently released a new set of school accountability ratings. To highlight the top-performing schools in the state, the TEA released a list of schools that were rated “met standard” and also earned all three distinctions: top 25% student progress, academic achievement in math, and academic achievement in reading and English language arts. “Texas schools achieving Met Standard rating plus all academic distinctions”, Texas Education Agency news release, August 9, 2013.
In San Antonio, two charter school campuses made the list: KIPP Aspire (part of the KIPP: San Antonio charter school district) and New Frontiers Middle School (part of the New Frontiers Charter School district).

Regarding New Frontiers:
New Frontiers Superintendent Alfredo Segura Jr. said the school district developed an in-house curriculum that’s been both a success and a challenge. The New Frontiers Middle School received all three distinctions but other schools in the district, one for K-3 grades, and another for grades 4-5, were rated as “improvement required.” Segura attributed the divide to implementing a new curriculum.
