Rocketship Education is a network of public, open-enrollment charter schools serving grades K-5. They have earned a reputation for using blended learning (a combination of traditional and high-tech, adaptive teaching methods) to close the achievement gap for low-income students. Rocketship began in San Jose, California, and has grown to eight campuses in the Bay Area. Recently, Rocketship expanded to Milwaukee in August 2013, and will add Nashville in 2014 and Washington, D.C. in 2015. San Antonio and Dallas are among the cities being considered for further expansion.
Rocketship applied for a Generation 18 charter in 2013 (earlier post), but their application did not reach the interview stage (earlier post). In February 2013, my kids and I visited a parent information session for Rocketship Education, and I wrote this post about it. The application deadline for Generation 19 charter applications is March 27, 2014, and it seems assured that Rocketship will apply again for a Texas charter. Rocketship is a Choose to Succeed partner school.
