San Antonio Symphony Holiday Pops 2015 | San Antonio Charter Moms

We’ve been looking forward to this for months! It’s almost time for the San Antonio Symphony to present its annual Holiday Pops concerts at the Tobin Center. On Friday and Saturday, December 18 and 19, 2015, the concerts will begin at 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday, December 20, the concert will begin at 2:00 p.m. The Symphony has offered my family a set of tickets to attend a concert and another set of four tickets to give away to my readers. To enter the giveaway for a four-pack of tickets to the Friday evening concert, please leave a comment on this blog post, sharing a story of an experience at the Tobin Center (or another venue). Leave your comment no later than Tuesday, December 15 ; I will randomly choose a winner and notify him or her by email, and the tickets will be waiting for you at the box office on Saturday evening.

Experiencing music together is an essential part of the holidays for my family. Last year, I helped my kids, F.T. and G.N., write a review of the 2014 Holiday Pops concert. They made comments like, “We learned that song at school!” and “It was amazing.” It was our first time hearing Holiday Pops in the Tobin Center: the acoustics were amazing, and the hall was beautifully decorated and lit for the holidays.

Associate Conductor Akiko Fujimoto leads the Symphony’s Pops concerts with spirit, bringing great performances out of the musicians—who wear their festive best—and pausing to share stories with the audience. The Holiday Pops programs are selected to represent many musical traditions, from classical music to popular, and to represent the holidays in a multicultural way.

The Symphony has several guests for Holiday Pops this year, including the San Antonio Mastersingers, directed by John Silantien; the Trinity University Handbell Ensemble, directed by Dianne Persellin; guest soprano Diane Penning; and maybe even a big guy in a red suit (wink).

Music-loving families, please mark your calendars for YOSA Phil Side-by-Side on February 28, 2016 at the Tobin Center. Symphony musicians will share the stage with the young musicians of YOSA Philharmonic, the most advanced ensemble of YOSA (short for Youth Orchestras of San Antonio), and Victoria Klaunig, winner of the YOSA Concerto Competition. Tickets are $5 each. The concert will start at 3 p.m., but I recommend going early, at 2 p.m., to enjoy the pre-concert activities, including an instrument petting zoo where your kids can try out a violin, a flute, etc.

The Holiday Pops concerts are sponsored by the Macy’s Foundation. You can purchase tickets online, by calling 210-223-8624, or visiting the box office.

If you would you like to enter the giveaway for a four-pack of tickets to the San Antonio Symphony Holiday Pops concert on Friday evening, please leave a comment on this blog post no later than Tuesday, sharing an experience at the Tobin Center (or another venue). Good luck!

Disclosure: The San Antonio Symphony gave me four tickets for my family to use at the concert, and four tickets to give away.
