Our Story

Inga Cotton is the mother of Annika, age 12, and Nicholas, age 15 and on the autism spectrum. Inspired by her own search for education options, Inga is the Founder and Executive Director of San Antonio Charter Moms, a nonprofit that helps families find schools that are the right fit for their children and become advocates for quality education.

Inga has lived in San Antonio since high school, and has a B.A. in History from Trinity University and a law degree from the University of Texas. In 2011, she learned about new charter schools that were coming to San Antonio. She wanted to help spread the word to families, so she created the San Antonio Charter Moms blog in 2012.

Over time, San Antonio Charter Moms grew to become an online community, including an active discussion group on Facebook.

The organization became a nonprofit in 2018 and has grown into a trusted source of information on education.

San Antonio Charter Moms helps parents and caregivers learn about lots of different schools—charter, private, magnet, and more—and how to get their kids enrolled. In 2019, they launched a school finder app with maps and filters to make it easier for parents to find schools on the go. The app is bilingual in English and Spanish, and many of the blog posts are also available in both languages. Recently, they have hosted School Discovery Day events to help families all around San Antonio to learn about schools.
