A charter school pre-K teacher’s perspective on the Brainpower Initiative

Erin Carroll, a pre-K teacher at Highland Park Gifted & Talented Academy (a charter school), offers her perspective on Mayor Julian Castro’s Brainpower Initiative. She reports seeing big differences between kindergarteners who show up with pre-K experience and ready to learn, versus kids who are new to a classroom. Also, she hopes that the “centers for excellence” will help with teacher training in early childhood development. “Building a Better Beginning: A Pre-K Teacher’s Perspective on the Brainpower Initiative”, Erin Carroll, Rivard Report, July 16, 2012.

The Rivard Report also reprints Elisa Chan’s email to constituents explaining the status of the Brainpower Initiative — contingent on the outcome of the November 6 election. “A Brainpower Primer from District Nine Councilwoman Elisa Chan”, Rivard Report, July 16, 2012.
