This afternoon, the State Board of Education’s Committee on School Initiatives voted to refer the Great Hearts and BASIS charter applications to the full board. (More information: webcast; agenda; my earlier post about all the applicants.)
On the BASIS application, the committee voted unanimously in favor (5-0). On the Great Hearts application, the committee voted 4-1 in favor. Mavis Knight voted against Great Hearts; she also tried to amend their application to prevent them from opening a campus in Dallas within the next three years.
On November 16, the State Board of Education will hold a General Meeting. No agenda is posted yet.
