Departing commissioner Robert Scott predicts backlash against standardized testing

Texas Monthly senior executive editor Paul Burka interviewed Robert Scott on his last day (July 2) as commissioner and summarized the standardized testing debate. “The Big Test”, Paul Burka, Texas Monthly, August 2012.

Burka asked Scott about his criticism of Texas’s standardized testing regime last winter at the meeting of the Texas Association of School Administrators.  “Texas Schools Chief: Testing Has Gone Too Far”, Morgan Smith, Texas Tribune, January 31, 2012.  Scott said that standardized testing had gone too far, and predicted that the next legislative session would see a backlash against it.

On the other side, the business community (through spokesman Bill Hammond of the Texas Association of Business) opposes any reeling in of standardized testing. “Business Leaders Draw a Line on Education Funding”, Morgan Smith, Texas Tribune, June 27, 2012.
