Event: First Friday Breakfast December 7 at KIPP Un Mundo

KIPP San Antonio charter school elementary kindergarten Tuleta Drive high performing dual languageI hope you will join me at the next First Friday Breakfast at KIPP Un Mundo at 7:45 a.m. on December 7. We will hear from KIPP: San Antonio leaders and teachers, tour the campus, and (of course) eat breakfast tacos.

KIPP Un Mundo is a dual-language elementary school that opened in Fall 2012 with help from the Brackenridge Foundation. See “Charter district gets $2.5 million: KIPP San Antonio’s grant is highest ever awarded by Brackenridge foundation”, Lindsay Kastner, San Antonio Express-News, March 1, 2011. Besides the elementary school, KIPP: San Antonio has two middle schools, KIPP Aspire Academy and KIPP Camino Academy, and a high school, KIPP University Prep. KIPP: San Antonio is part of the Choose to Succeed program and has plans to keep growing.

The KIPP Un Mundo campus is located north of downtown, west of the 281/Hildebrand exit. Heading west on Hildebrand, at the Devine Road/Stadium drive intersection, turn left (south), and drive past the Olmos Tower condominiums. Trinity University will be on your right; KIPP: Un Mundo will be on your left. Farther down Tuleta Drive you’ll see some parking lots under the highway; if you see the San Antonio Zoo, you’ve gone too far. If you go up the hill on Stadium Drive, you will see parking lots for Alamo Stadium (part of San Antonio ISD). If the KIPP: Un Mundo campus looks familiar, maybe you saw it when it was Sunshine Cottage, a school for deaf children, which has moved up the hill to a new campus on Hildebrand.
