[Event] KIPP University Prep to host First Friday Breakfast on March 7, 2014

KIPP: San Antonio First Friday Breakfast on March 7, 2014 at KIPP University Prep | San Antonio Charter MomsWould you like to learn more about KIPP: San Antonio? The next First Friday Breakfast will be at KIPP University Prep, 319 E. Mulberry Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78212 (map), on Friday, March 7, 2014, from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The featured speakers will be Tina DeValk and Abby Morton-Garland, KIPP University Prep’s Co-School Leaders beginning in July.

The breakfasts are open to friends, families, and supporters of KIPP, and feature a free buffet with tacos, muffins, fruit, coffee, juice, and more. School leaders, teachers, and students will share their stories. The students themselves will lead visitors on a tour of their campus. RSVP to Dina Cruz  at 210-279-5525 or dcruz@kippsa.org. More details in this invitation.

At February’s breakfast, at KIPP Camino Academy (earlier post), we heard from Ruben Rodriguez, Director of KIPP Through College San Antonio, which provides ongoing support to KIPP: San Antonio alumni as they earn their four-year college degrees. Kacy L. Harris, a consultant with Accenture, is working with KIPP Through College to support college and career readiness for KIPP: San Antonio graduates.

KIPP University Prep will be moving over the summer, and the campus on Mulberry is the future location of Great Hearts Monte Vista North, as mentioned in this earlier post.

Recently, my kids and I visited KIPP University Prep to hear United States Senator John Cornyn address the students; read more in this earlier post. Last November, F.T. and I joined the KIPP March to College (earlier post) and walked to the post office with the seniors to cheer for them as they mailed their college applications.

If you can’t make it to the March breakfast, then please mark your calendars for Friday, April 4, 2014, when the breakfast will be at KIPP Un Mundo Academy, and May 2, 2014 when the breakfast will be at KIPP Aspire Academy. That completes the First Friday Breakfasts for 2013-14; for the full list, see this earlier post.

Prospective students and families might want to visit an evening information session; there’s one tonight, March 4, at 5:30 p.m., and another on March 18. The application deadline is March 31. For more details, see this earlier post.
