After rejection by the local school board, Great Hearts recently announced that it plans to appeal to the state. Assuming its appeal succeed, it would open its first charter school in Nashville in 2014. “Great Hearts takes fight to open charter schools to state”, Nate Rau, Tennessean, July 5, 2012.
In an email to supporters, Great Hearts leaders wrote:
“We are very grateful for the outpouring of support we have received from the Nashville community,” the Great Hearts email stated. “It is this connection with the families that has fixed our resolve to continue with our quest to obtain charters to serve scholars across the city.”
This demonstrates the power of community action. The same strategies used by Nashville parents can work in San Antonio, too.
