Great Hearts Monte Vista enrollment period begins October 30, 2013

Great Hearts Monte Vista enrollment period begins October 30, 2013 | San Antonio Charter MomsGreat Hearts Texas is holding an informational meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in the Barshop Auditorium at Temple Beth-El, 211 Belknap Place, San Antonio, Texas 78212 (map), the location of the Great Hearts Monte Vista Campus. If you plan to attend, please register at Eventbrite. More details about the informational meeting in this earlier post.

Among the topics to be covered at the informational meeting is enrollment. Some details are already posted on the admissions tab of the Great Hearts Texas website.

Great Hearts Monte Vista will hold its open-enrollment period for the 2014-15 school year from October 30, 2013 to December 6, 2013. The online application portal will go live on October 30, 2013, the day after the informational meeting. The same day, Great Hearts will open a phone line for enrollment questions.

Parents, take note: the open-enrollment period is not first-come, first served. As explained on the Great Hearts Texas website:

Applications received during Open Enrollment will enter a lottery to determine the order in which enrollment will be offered and, if needed, placement on a wait list.

Applications received after the Open-Enrollment period will not be eligible to enter the Open-Enrollment lottery. Instead, these applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis behind applications received during the Open-Enrollment period.

The lotteries will be held in January, and parents will learn the results of the lotteries in mid-January.

The website explains how sibling priority works:

We do offer application priority status for siblings of students currently enrolled at a Great Hearts academy. Since Great Hearts—Monte Vista is a first-year school, there are currently no enrolled students. Therefore, sibling priority status cannot be granted to any sibling application until one of the siblings is fully enrolled. A student is considered fully enrolled when they have accepted an offer of enrollment, and have completed and submitted all required registration paperwork. Once you have a child enrolled at Great Hearts, any sibling on a wait list will be moved up the waitlist along with other applications with priority status. Sibling priority does NOT guarantee enrollment, but does significantly improve likelihood of enrollment.

Great Hearts Monte Vista will offer grades K-9 in 2014-15. Your child must turn 5 before September 1, 2014 to be eligible for kindergarten in 2014-15. All students are welcome to apply—Great Hearts has no admissions testing or criteria.
