Today is back-to-school time for many KIPP: San Antonio students, two weeks earlier than most schools in the area. “More Time” is one of the Five Pillars of the KIPP approach. That means a longer school day (see sample teacher schedules from KIPP: NYC), a longer school week, and a longer school year. Random assignment studies (earlier post) show that KIPP students, compared to peers who were not selected in the lottery, pack in months’ worth of extra learning each year.
See for yourself at the next First Friday Breakfast at KIPP Aspire Academy (grades 5-8) from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on September 6, 2013. Experience a student-led campus tour, eat breakfast tacos and drink coffee, and hear from KIPP: San Antonio leaders and teachers. RSVP to Dina Cruz at (210) 279-5525 or dcruz@kippsa.org.
If you can’s make it on September 6, this post has the schedule for all the 2013-14 First Friday Breakfasts, including events at KIPP University Prep, KIPP Camino Academy, and KIPP Un Mundo Academy (pictured above).
