Parents at Desert Trails Elementary in Adelanto, California rounded up enough signatures to activate the “parent trigger”: when parents at a failing school ask that their local campus be handed over to a charter school operator. The school board allowed (encouraged?) some parents to rescind their signatures, which put the petition below the required 50% of parents. However, a judge recently ruled that the statute does not allow signatures to be rescinded, and so the parent trigger petition will proceed. “Ruling supports Adelanto charter school effort”, Teresa Watanabe, Los Angeles Times, July 24, 2012.
