Profile of JoAnn Gama, co-founder of IDEA Public Schools

Did you know that IDEA Public Schools started as a “school-within-a-school” in Donna, Texas, co-founded by Teach for America alumni JoAnn Gama and Tom Torkelson? In a profile in rgVision magazine, Gama talks about how the program grew into a network of high-performing charter schools, and about her goals:

“If we can figure this out, I think we can just change the world,” Gama said. “The real work begins when we start thinking ‘how do we change those statistics and those numbers that are facing our people?’ The way to get people out of poverty is to ensure that they have a college education. If I can figure that out, I really feel we can change statistics for our people.”

“We can change the world”, Joe Louis Gomez, rgVision, January 8, 2013.
