Ken Mercer serves on the Texas State Board of Education representing District 5, which includes northern Bexar county (San Antonio); Kendall, Comal, and Guadalupe counties; and north to Burnet county. He defeated Rebecca Bell-Metereau (D) in the 2012 general election.
Mercer is currently chair of the Committee on School Initiatives, which oversees charter school applications, among other duties.
