Rocketship Education parent information session March 20, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. | San Antonio Charter Moms

Rocketship Education is hosting a parent information session on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cortez Branch Library, 2803 Hunter Blvd., San Antonio, Texas 78224 (map). RSVP at www.rsed.org/texas.

Rocketship Education is a network of public, open-enrollment charter schools serving grades K-5. They have earned a reputation for using blended learning (a combination of traditional and high-tech, adaptive teaching methods) to close the achievement gap for low-income students. A hallmark of their approach is parent engagement at a level that transforms communities. Read more about their use of blended learning in this earlier post.

Rocketship began in San Jose, California, and has grown to eight campuses in the Bay Area. Recently, Rocketship expanded to Milwaukee in August 2013, and will add Nashville in 2014 and Washington, D.C. in 2015. San Antonio and Dallas are among the cities being considered for further expansion.

Rocketship applied for a Generation 18 charter in 2013 (earlier post), but their application did not reach the interview stage (earlier post). In February 2013, my kids and I visited a parent information session for Rocketship Education, and I wrote this post about it. The application deadline for Generation 19 charter applications is March 27, 2014, and it seems assured that Rocketship will apply again for a Texas charter. Rocketship is a Choose to Succeed partner school.

For Dallas families, there’s a parent information session on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at 7616 Umphress Rd., Dallas, Texas 75217 (map). RSVP at www.rsed.org/texas.
