- Aspire Public Schools: based in California; expanding to Tennessee
- BASIS Schools, Inc.: based in Tucson, Arizona; opening in Washington, D.C. in fall 2012
- Rocketship Education; based in California; may expand to Tennessee, Indiana, or Louisiana
- Carpe Diem: based in Yuma, Arizona; opening in Indiana in fall 2012
BASIS has applied for a charter in Texas, which would allow it to open schools here starting in fall 2013. In Texas, charter school operators apply directly to the state, rather than having to clear local hurdles. However, Texas has an arbitrary cap of 215 charters, most of which are already taken.
