San Antonio parents who aren’t satisfied with their neighborhood public school have plenty of options.
“Education options abound”, Lindsay Kastner, San Antonio Express-News, August 7, 2013.
San Antonio parents: Do you feel like you have “plenty of options”? I don’t. But I’m glad there are several new charter schools opening this year.
The article was printed last Sunday, but evidently was written a few weeks ago, so let me bring it up to date:
- BASIS San Antonio is opening in 2013, but a week late. See this earlier post.
- The new Hebrew language immersion charter school is calling itself Eleanor Kolitz Hebrew Language Academy, not Ben Yehuda Academy (the name on their charter application). See this earlier post.
- Great Hearts may have a location for Fall 2014. See this earlier post.
- Anne Frank Inspire Academy has delayed its opening until the 2014-15 school year. See this earlier post.
- IDEA South Flores opened this month on the South Side. See this earlier post.
Even with these new schools opening, the feedback that I am hearing from parents is that they are still looking for more options. Also, many charter schools have long waiting lists. (Watch the video in this earlier post.)
Find more information about new charter schools in my FAQ (and this earlier post); a more complete list of charter schools is in this guide.
