We are proud to share this Teacher Tales guest post by Tamarya Guess, PE Coach at Compass Rose Dream, sharing her perspective about guiding her students as a coach and mentor.
Known by my students as “Coach T,” I have the honor of working as the PE Coach at Compass Rose Dream, a school with a specialized field of study in medicine/health focused on supporting the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, located just minutes from the South Texas Medical Center.
One thing I love most about Compass Rose Dream is the diversity and celebration of different cultures. I enjoy learning and communicating in the various languages of our scholars, and we communicate in 4–5 different languages across our campus. We work diligently to create a classroom and school environment that supports and welcomes scholars and families from different backgrounds and provides access to a world-class education. Our scholars have stories of determination and growth and many have defied odds that most would never imagine all while learning new languages and understanding a different way of life.
At Compass Rose Dream we are committed to finding fresh and effective ways to connect with our scholars and families. We understand that the world is ever-changing and we are here to support our community by being open to new ideas and ways of life. Family communication is strong here and is something that we take great pride in.
As a parent of two myself, I know firsthand the importance of school choice and finding the right program that meets the needs of your children. With our focus on student-centered learning, we encourage scholars to own their learning experiences while educators provide them with intentional support and opportunities for growth. That is something I appreciate about Compass Rose Dream. Scholars flourish by being supported by educators who believe in them and educators who celebrate diversity and see the beauty in our similarities and differences. This allows us to foster a healthy, safe, and productive school environment.
As we work to prepare our students to become the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, we also support them with the support to become effective advocates for themselves and others, because that’s what community is all about.
