The board of trustees of San Antonio ISD has approved a Rightsizing plan that closes 15 schools in the district, displacing thousands of students before the 2024–25 school year. We’ve created a guide to Rightsizing in SAISD, and if you’re new to this topic, we recommend reading that blog post, too. This guide uses our resources to empower SAISD families who are impacted by rightsizing to look at all of their nearby public school options, including SAISD Choice Schools and open enrollment charter schools, with an eye towards school quality and unique learning models.
Helping SAISD Families Find School Options
The SAISD board has determined which schools are set for closure or merger, and which schools are designated to receive new students. We have summarized those changes in our SAISD Rightsizing guide. But what other school options are available for families affected by SAISD Rightsizing? We have resources to help:
- Enrollment guide to SAISD Choice Schools
- School Choice Guide with over 170 campuses across the San Antonio area
- San Antonio Charter Moms discussion group on Facebook
- School Discovery Day events
SAISD can be divided by neighborhood feeder pattern—in other words, all the schools that feed into each comprehensive high school. Those area also correspond to single member districts on the SAISD Board of Trustees. In and around each of these zones, there are tuition-free, open enrollment public charter schools that SAISD families can consider. There are also schools that offer similar learning models. Some open enrollment charter schools offer transportation as well.
